About Caleb Mason a.k.a. Don Trowden

Don Trowden is the pen name for Caleb Mason, who is the author of six novels and one non-fiction book. His books have received praise from Allen Lacy of The New York Times and authors including Jane Smiley, Joyce Kornblatt, and Eleanor Perenyi.

Caleb's most recent novel, The Last Renter, received a starred Publishers Weekly review. This follow-up to Thickafog (2025) is a psychological thriller set on remote Archer Island. Previous novels include: Young Again  (2023) co-authored with Valerie McKee, an uplifting story of inclusion and the healing power of music. The Normal Family Trilogy consists of Normal Family (2012); No One Ran to the Altar (2016); and All the Lies We Live (2018).  The nonfiction book, The Isles of Shoals Remembered: A Legacy from America's First Musicians and Artists Colony,  was published in 1992.
